Emergency dentist service

It can be challenging to determine what constitutes a dental emergency. However, if you're experiencing dental pain or discomfort, it's advisable to contact us for immediate assistance. Any of the following symptoms may indicate the need for prompt dental care:

Dental Emergencies can include a cracked, broken, or completely knocked out tooth, a lost filling, damaged dental restorations, or an abscess, which can form within a tooth or on the gum.

So, if you feel there’s something wrong, call us without delay. You might need immediate dental treatment from one of our skilled dentists to prevent the problem from worsening or stop it from causing permanent damage.

Emergency Dental Care Tips

You shouldn’t have to wait too long to see us, but if you do have a mouth-related mishap, you might want to follow these handy dental emergency tips to help relieve pain and prevent further damage:

Knocked out tooth

We will be much more likely to save the tooth if you see us quickly. Hold the tooth carefully and avoid touching the roots - these are very delicate. Rinse gently with water to remove excess skin.

If you can, try to put the tooth back and make sure it is the right way around. If you can, don’t force it in, as this could damage the tooth and the gum. Place it in some milk or water containing a pinch of salt.

Chipped tooth

First, rinse your mouth with warm water. If you have any pieces, keep them. A cold compress will help reduce any swelling and you can stop any bleeding with a piece of gauze pressed on the wound.

Lost filling or crown

Keep the restoration if you still have it. If intact, you can use sugar-free gum to stick it in place. You can also use over-the-counter dental cement (if you have access to it).

Abscess

If you suspect you are suffering from an abscess, rinse your mouth with warm, salty water and take over-the-counter painkillers. If you develop a high temperature, severe pain, or difficulty breathing, you may have to go to A&E.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency means you require urgent dental assistance and/or you are in severe dental pain. This dental emergency could occur due to various situations, such as an infection, dental injury, and knocked-out teeth. If you are in dental pain, contact us for an emergency dental appointment. We will do our best to get you seen as soon as possible.

How to get emergency dental care?

Contact us immediately and we will endeavour to make you an emergency dentist appointment as soon as possible. Our emergency dentists can cover a wide range of issues and aim to get you out of any pain or discomfort within an hour of seeing you.

How much is an emergency dentist appointment?

We will work out what treatment you may need and will provide you with a full price breakdown and options for treatment.

How long does a toothache last?

How long your toothache will last does depend on the underlying cause. If you have a temporary gum irritation, then the pain should go away within a day or two. If the problem is an abscess or cavity the pain may come and go in waves, but it won’t go away entirely until you have got the dental issue resolved.

Can I go to A&E for a dental emergency?

There is usually no need for you to visit A&E for a dental emergency, as dentists are far better equipped to treat you in a dental practice than a doctor in a hospital. You may also waste time waiting in A&E to find you can’t be effectively treated. If you have a dental emergency, the best option is to contact your dental practice for advice.
